Dhrupad

It is said that drupad style of singing was first invented on 15th century by king of gwalior Maan Singh Tomar. He also composed some drupads. During ancient time saints use to devote themselves to God by singing sanskrit shlokas in dhrupad.

In todays time also dhrupad is known as serious and strong style of singing. Songs in dhrupad are usually found in hindi, urdu and brajbhasah. This style of singing is suitable for men. Dhrupad is uaually sung in taals like chautaal, sulfank, champ, tivra, bhramtaal, rudra taal, etc. in dhrupad taans are not used, but it is sung in dugun, chogun. And also boltaans are sung in Dhrupad.
